I stayed in Costa Meloneras Hotel for ten days in January. I can confirm most of the reviews on this hotel. It is a very large property with over two thousand guests but it never seemed over crowded except maybe at peak breakfast time (between 9am and 10am). If you are looking for a personal intimate hotel this is not for you but if you are looking for a very well run and well organised place with many many activities you wont be disappointed. In the ten day I didn't get around to seeing all the different areas (not even the secluded area reserved for nude sunbathing).
There are about ten bars and six restaurants all with different menus and ambiance. The area around the hotel is an upmarket shopping complex with plenty of restaurants. This hotel is well worth visiting. [Hide]

We stayed at this hotel for a week in mid September. This was our first visit to Gran Canaria and we were advised to stay in this hotel by friends who have been several times. We arrived at about 1500 and were met off the coach by the porter who took our bags which were delivered to our room. At Reception we were met by a very helpful receptionist who provided us with our room keys and a map of the hotel. We had booked a pool/garden room but were given a free upgrade to a senior suite. Fabulous. This is a huge hotel with over 1,000 rooms.
The suite was very spacious and very clean with a hall area with mirror and table that led to the bathroom with a bath, double sinks with a large mirror and a good hair dryer. There was a separate power shower/wet room and separate toilet/bidet room. In the hall there were two good sized wardrobes (one with a safe) that led into the main bedroom (two singles pushed together), a desk, TV unit and two chairs and table and a separate lounge room with settee, TV, dining table and chairs, fridge, then a very large balcony with two chairs and table overlooking the pool.

We stayed on the half board basis. There are two buffet restaurants which were both very nice, both with outside eating areas, which has allocated seating, so you have to queue to be allocated a table - if you sit inside you find your own table. We always ate outside. The food choice was superb. I defy anyone not to find something they wanted to eat. The staff are very friendly and are constantly bringing out fresh food and clearing away used plates etc but the restaurants are very busy at times. There are supposed to be 2 sittings for dinner but that system did not work very well.
The hotel bar in the main foyer is lovely as is the Terrace looking over the infinity pool, where the entertainment stage is set up in the evening. It can be hard to find tables after dinner here, especially if you do not eat at the early sitting. There are several a la carte restaurants and snack bars near the pools so there are plenty of places to get drinks and snacks within the hotel. The hotel also has a hairdressers and few clothes/jewellery shops and small supermarket, with reasonable prices for bottled water etc. If you go out the front or the rear of the hotel there are plenty of restaurants/shops to choose from.
The hotel’s facilities are very good and spotlessly clean and the pools are very popular areas so the sunbeds are taken very early but many beds are in very shady areas as the shade from the trees means that (apart from the Solarium) it can be hard to get sun loungers that aren’t in heavy shade. There is a policy of not reserving sun beds with towels before 10am but this is policed in a very hit and miss way. On some days we watched towels being removed but on other days they were left in situ. To reserve a sunny spot you need to sit on your sun bed until 10am to guarantee keeping it. Not what I wanted to do on my holiday. Breakfast is served to 11.00 though.
The hotels entertainment was quite good. The hotel itself and the surrounding areas were lovely and the hotel is within easy walking distance of the beach and the sand dunes. It is a purpose-built resort, the shops are ‘designer’ but the whole area felt a bit lacking in atmosphere to us. We caught a local bus to Puerto de Mogan one day, which is well worth a visit.

We had a lovely time and the only thing that that would stop us going back is because we were upgraded to a senior suite, we would probably think a standard room was a bit basic. However, we had a lovely time and I would recommend this hotel to other travellers. [Hide]
